TESTING 1 ... 2 ... 3 ...

Julia My family and I have been avid readers of Cupid for years. Every Sunday, my dad texts the column to my sister and me (even though we could find it online if we wanted).

Abhi I drank a Monster, put on cologne, and pretended we were going to meet in person.

Julia It was the first time I put on makeup in months, since the pandemic.

Abhi Julia was attractive. I was worried that I wouldn’t find my date attractive and it wasn’t an issue at all.

Julia He was attractive! He looked kind and like somebody I could be comfortable around.

Abhi I was worried it might be weird, but it wasn’t. Although it’s easier to form a rapport and build romantic chemistry face-to-face.

STRUMMING ALONG

Julia I asked about his job at a music software company. I’ve been learning how to produce music, and he’s helping build a music production app. It was a relief to find out we had something in common.

Abhi We both love music, play the guitar, and are aspiring to become better at music production.

Julia I got steak tips from Olde Magoun’s Saloon. Neither of us ate much because it felt awkward to sneak bites on camera.

Abhi I ordered a meatball pizza from Stoked. I’d give it a 9 out of 10 because nothing’s really perfect.

Julia Luckily, we were in agreement about most of the topics we covered. (Phew!) We jumped around but kept coming back to music production, guitars we own, guitars we’d like to get, the Boston music scene.

Abhi She actually recommended a cool acoustic guitar that I’m looking into getting.

Julia One perk of the virtual platform is that I got to play him something I wrote on the guitar. I don’t think that would’ve happened in person.

Abhi She played me a song on her 12-string acoustic guitar, which only had 10 strings on it. All I could do was smile and listen. That’s when the thought hit me, I really do like this girl.

SAME WAVELENGTH

Julia The conversation flowed. By the end, we were googling Yiddish insults and reading out the funniest ones.

Abhi She was pretty disarming, which I thought was charming.

Julia We’d been talking for three hours, so I suggested wrapping it up.

Abhi I tried to sneak in some flirty comments, but it’s tough when you’re not face-to-face. I tried to do my best, with what I had.

SECOND DATE?

Julia I’d like to keep talking to him, but considering that I’m moving in a few months, I don’t know if it would be in a dating context.

Abhi I’d be down. She’s moving, so it doesn’t seem like anything is going to happen. I’m happy to have met her.
